鄭州機械研究所是我國齒輪傳動、機械強度與振動、新型釬焊材料和化學標樣等行業的技術歸口單位，建有15個國家級和省部級科技創新平臺和行業服務平臺，承擔完成了許多國家重大工程、重大裝備的科研攻關任務，成功解決了三峽、葛洲壩、海洋工程等多項重大工程中的核心技術難題,研制填補國內空白的首臺（套）新產品180余個，制修訂國家標準178項，獲得各種科技獎勵近1000項，其中獲得國家級和省部級獎勵220余項。
鄭州機械研究所由鄭州市內的研發總部、高新區產業園區和龍湖產業園區組成，占地近300畝，科研生產建筑面積8萬平方米，擁有各種生產、檢測和試驗設備儀器1000多臺套，建成了高參數齒輪箱、新型焊接材料與焊接工藝設備、精密鑄鍛件、機電一體化成套設備等產業基地，長期為國內外客戶提供優質的產品和服務，竭誠滿足客戶通用化和個性化的需求。
鄭州機械研究所在人才培養方面具有獨特的優勢，能夠招收培養“機械設計及理論”、“工程力學”兩個學科博士學位研究生，能夠招收培養“機械設計及理論”、“材料加工工程”、“工程力學”、“固體力學”4個學科碩士學位研究生。
